In the ongoing tale of how my blog and the fediverse interact, I have decided that having the fediverse stuff post as drafts at my blog is terrible, because now in addition to tidying up title and tags (which I don’t mind doing), I also have to set the post date and time (and that’s a huge bother). So now I’ve set it to save the posts as private, which should keep it out of the blog’s RSS feed, retain the time stamp, and give me a chance to tidy it up before it’s published publicly.

On a side note, I never noticed the fediverse time stamps are in 24 hour military time until I was setting time stamps on blog posts last night. Is there anyway to change that?

Has occurred to me that I could set my IFTTT applet to not post whatever it finds in my fediverse RSS feed immediately upon seeing it, so now it’s set to save everything as draft posts. That way, it doesn’t send out the not yet cleaned up stuff to my blog’s RSS feed, and I can get to cleaning everything up when I feel like it. For me, the routine of going over to my blog’s dashboard once a day to tidy up things has been a nice new routine. I like routines. They give my day some structure.

Speaking of draft posts, there are fourteen of them sitting on my WordPress dashboard that I wrote over the last few months. I should probably go through those. Some may actually be good enough to finish and post.

See, I was blogging, I just wasn’t posting! 🤣

Another option for getting your fediverse stuff to your blog, is to set up a page to run the feed on, and set that as your main page (or not). I was running a widget in my sidebar that did that, and it worked great, and I might try this method as well on a page when I have time to fuss with it. Since I’m not actively blogging much at the moment, this might be a good solution for me, because with this method, photos and everything are there, and it all links back to the fediverse.

Ok, here’s how I’m getting my fediverse posts to post as individual posts on my WordPress blog: I’m using an RSS to WordPress applet at IFTTT.com. It’s not 100% perfect, but it gets the job mostly done. It will transfer all plain text into a post, you can set a default title, category, and tags for said post, and it links back to the original fediverse post. It ignores photos entirely, and I haven’t posted a link, so no idea how it will react to that. It’s the best free option I’ve found thus far.

What I plan to do, and have done, is at the end up the day or when I have time, I go clean up the posts by giving them proper titles and tags, and uploading whatever photos didn’t carry over. I’m only doing that because that’s all that’s going on at my blog right now, and it’s all on the front page (and I’m picky about stuff). If you had a dedicated page just for your Fedi posts, you could probably just use it as is without doing added editing.
