I have a theory about games that insist on constantly adding more and more foggy, rainy, hazy, smoky, dusty, ashy, snowy, cloudy atmospheric environmental effects to every possible indoor and outdoor location. My theory is there’s something they don’t want you to see.

My final report on how the planets my main save in #NoMansSky had bases on turned out is that everything is terrible. Every single one of my pretty pretty planets has become a shithole. Mostly murky planets with chopped down dead trees and rain. A few are worse than that. I am, in a word, gutted. We’re talking 50 or so planets. You’d think at least one of them woulD have continued to be at least nice? I guess paradise planets in Euclid are now rarer than hens teeth, and they were already not all that easy to find (if you wanted it to also be pretty and earth-like).
In an attempt to look on the bright side, after I tear down all the bases I no longer give a damn about, I’ll be able to build bases on that save again. I reached the max build limit on it quite a while back. Still, doesn’t feel good. I’d found some incredibly cool planets, and now my main save has nowhere nice to hang out. Guess she lives on her freighter now. Ugh.

Downloaded the update and logged into my original main #NoMansSky save. Have visited the first three bases I ever built. Each planet is dramatically different than it was before. Not going to say everything doesn’t look amazing, because it does, but all three are not at all what they were before. My beach house is now on a cloudy planet when it’s as a red grass paradise planet before. My first base ever was on a pink grass planet with pink water, and now it’s yellow with blue water. My first ever rolling mold farm as on a green planet with blue water, and now it’s orange with who knows what color water, because I didn’t have to the heart to go look.
It all looks amazing, but I’m feeling a little bit sad. These aren’t even my favorite planets, and they have all changed so much. What’s become of my faves?! Do I want to find out? Eek!

Oh my god, the #NoMansSky update just dropped! Worlds Part 1! Improved cloud and water rendering, more planetary variety, new gameplay features (including solar ship crafting), and a new expedition. It’s like I got everything I was hoping for!
I haven’t installed it yet, because I’m worried my favorite planets will change dramatically (again). It’s a silly worry, because I’m always finding more favorite planets, and maybe my faves turn out even cooler! Also, it’s not like I would keep playing the game and never updating it again. It’s just a "hold me I’m scared" moment. I’m gonna make coffee and breakfast, and then I’ll tap the download button.
If you need me today, I’ll be in my recliner exploring the universe. 😄

I’ve been considering buying Baldur's Gate 3. I played the first two, of course, and I know I’d mostly enjoy the game, but it’s been a dog's age since I played any kind of D&D at all, and having to control an entire party of characters with a bunch of different classes and subclasses sounds like so much work. Like I’m afraid the game will just be too mentally taxing and frustrating for me. I’m sure I recall how to play ranger, rogue, and paladin, as those were the only three classes I ever played in D&D, but I know nothing of the other classes at all. The learning curve may feel steep.
But there’s going to be an update for No Man's Sky very soon, and I feel like it’s going to be a bigger one, so I guess I’ll put off my BG3 decision until after I see what happens in NMS.
