I have been a total slug about getting the food porn posted! I know some of you just love the food photos, so I hope you don’t overdose on this one!

Feta, onion, basil, and mushroom mini meatloaf with oven fries and a garden salad. The meatloaf was top notch, and I will be repeating the combination.

Pizza night! I’ve given up trying to make the perfect crispy pizza crust and am now focusing on making the perfect standard crust. I also changed my sauce recipe to make it thicker, so I could put more on without it getting soggy. Toppings included pepperoni, mushroom, grape tomatoes, feta, onion, and provolone cheese. Lin declared this the best pizza I’ve ever made. It was quite yummy!

Basic stew with beef, cabbage, carrots, onion, and potatoes. This is the first stew I’ve ever made that didn’t use a tomato base. It’s also the first huge pot of stew that vanished in one day. Apparently, we liked it. A lot.

Spinach tagliatelle with beef and mushrooms topped with repurposed pizza sauce and shavings of provolone cheese, served with steamed broccoli. Mmm, mmm, good!

Last night’s dinner was a bit of a culinary adventure. I had some veggies I needed to use before the next box of groceries arrived but that I wasn’t entirely sure I really liked (or knew what to do with, especially all together). Greenling to the rescue! One of the recipes they sent along with the groceries used the things that needed using, so I made it!

Cabbage, fennel, spring onion, garlic, and snow peas (which I added to the recipe) sautéed in an orange juice sauce, served with poached Italian sausage. I wasn’t sure what the veggies would taste like, and I was concerned it would be really sweet or otherwise obnoxious in flavor. It wasn’t! The flavors all blended well and ended up being really mild. I can’t say I’d go out of my way to buy the ingredients to make it again, but should I find myself with them in my fridge, I’d definitely repeat this.

There then, all caught up on the food porn! Hope I didn’t make you too hungry!

Had leftover chicken from last night, and since today was grocery day, I had a load of fresh veggies, so it felt like a good night to have a huge salad with some chicken on top! We need to eat salads like this more often. Tasty, filling, and healthy!

And … because my grocer sent along extra peaches today and now I also have a load of fresh fruit, PLUS I ordered too much milk, today seemed like a great day to get out the ice cream machine, clean it up, and make some peach sherbet. So light and fluffy and OH MY GOD PEACHY! Best idea I have had all week!

Now, I’m stuffed. I have to sit quietly and digest. LOL!

First up is pork and veggie stir fry with snow peas, cabbage, spring onions, and mushrooms with a mustard sauce, served on a bed of steamed rice.

Last night we had oven fried chicken breast, steamed broccoli and squash, and a huge salad (with kale chip sprinkles on top).

While our meals have always been tasty and as healthy as possible, I have to say, now that we are eating even more local, seasonal, and organic than ever (thanks to Greenling), meals have been extraordinarily tasty the last couple of weeks. Also, cooking with so many fine and fresh foods has been an absolute joy! I’m so glad we’ve upgraded our diet once again (and I’m tickled it all gets delivered to my door).

I have discovered I hate, hate, hate fresh and raw kale. Yuck! Don’t like the texture or the flavor one bit. But I love, love, love kale chips! Good thing I found a way to like kale, seeing as there’s a huge pile of it in my fridge. LOL!

Tonight’s sloppy joes and coleslaw, both of which were oh so very tasty. Normally, I can’t stand coleslaw (I know, very unsouthern of me), but I have a lot of cabbage and carrots to use, and well … coleslaw uses them. Turned out so tasty, I liked it! Good thing, seeing as there’s a bunch leftover.

The homemade pizza I made a couple days ago. I didn’t feel like cooking, and I’m really trying hard to stop ordering delivery foods like, say, pizza, so making a pizza was the easiest thing I could come up with for dinner that night. A really grainy whole wheat crust topped with ground beef, mushrooms, black olives, bacon, onion, and a variety of cheeses. It was yummy. It’s pretty hard to screw up a pizza.

We’ve been down to potatoes, rice, beans, and a smattering of meat the last few days, because I have been awaiting the arrival of my first order of groceries from Greenling to be delivered today. I was so anxious for its arrival, I didn’t even go back to sleep this morning, though with only three hours of sleep under my belt, I really wanted to. Instead, I kept myself busy with household tasks (like cleaning the porch and doing the dishes), and, of course, goofing off on the internet.

By 2 pm though, my ability to keep my eyes open was failing fast, and a nap was going to be necessary, so I set my alarm for an hour and curled up on the bed. Every time I heard a vehicle on the road, my eyes popped open. Eventually, I dozed off. Just as my alarm went off, I noticed movement in the driveway. The groceries were here! Perfect timing!

I hadn’t even been able to adapt to only shopping on the weekends yet, so figuring out how much of what to have delivered every week is going to take a couple weeks to sort out. I was really quite accustomed to going to the grocery store whenever I liked … or when we ran out of something. I honestly have little idea how much of what gets eaten in the house every week. It’s possible I bought too much fruit, though is there such a thing as too much fruit? Maybe not. LOL!

I am thrilled to have a load of fresh fruit and veggies in the house, as well as my usual bread flours and an all new brand of yeast to try (works better for whole grain). Plus milk and cheese from local and regional dairies, and even sandwich meat! It’s all organic, and it’s mostly locally or regionally produced too! Even better? It isn’t costing me any more than it did to trudge through the enormous grocery store and visit the farmers markets, and it’s dropped off AT MY DOOR!

I never thought I’d have groceries delivered to my house. I dreamt about having grocery delivery, but seriously, it always seemed like a thing rich people did. I keep feeling like doing a happy dance while singing “We’re moving on up, to the top, to a deluxe apartment in the sky!” Well, except we’ll still be living in our rundown fixer-upper cottage. But who cares, because my transportationless self will no longer have to fight weekend traffic and crowds to buy food! Today, I feel freaking rich!

Now the only problem is where to store the delivery bins. I hadn’t thought about that little problem. Well, big problem, actually. I’m going to have to rearrange my existence a little, and it will totally be worth it. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go have a cup of ice cold milk and a banana while I plan dinner!

I’ve been lazy about posting this week’s food porn. Sorry, but it’s been one of “those” weeks. I’m lucky I got anything done!

Monday: chicken breast breaded with Italian seasoned bread crumbs with a honey mustard sauce, served with squash-olive couscous and roasted acorn squash. Why yes, I do happen to love squash!

Tuesday: we had grilled roast beef and provolone sandwiches with sweet potato oven fries. I didn’t take a photo, because while this meal is always very tasty, it’s not terribly exciting to look at. LOL!

Wednesday: feta onion meatloaf served with basil pesto coated spinach pasta and boiled new potatoes with an olive oil pepper sauce.

Tonight: whole wheat pasta with standard mushroom/garlic/beef spaghetti sauce and a fresh salad. I wanted pizza, because I didn’t feel like cooking, but the idea was voted down by the husband. Guess I’m glad, because the pasta tonight was awesome (tried a new –really wheaty– brand).
