Today’s Highlight

Well, another day done. I got bread baked today, so YEAH … fresh bread. The highlight of the day was Myu being the baddest possible cat she possibly could be. All new heights of cat badness!

When I am baking bread, in between the two risings, there is a pile of flour on my kitchen worktable, most of which will end up being in the bread. The kitchen worktable is the only place in the whole house that cats are positively, absolutely forbidden to ever, EVER be on. Ever. It’s the only thing I very firmly taught them not to do when they were all little. It’s the only thing I was a true hard-nose about as far as unauthorized cat activities go, and evidenced my the fact I haven’t tossed the beasts out the door yet or turned them into fine winter hats (they really are unruly on some days, let me tell you).

So imagine my surprise, when the timer went off to let me know it was time for the second kneading, to walk into the kitchen and see Myu lounging on the kitchen worktable in the middle of my pile of flour. I shrieked quite loudly, and she casually turned her head to look at me and JUST KEPT LOUNGING where she was. Not a tense muscle in her body. Just laying there on top of my pile of flour. She was at least smart enough to realize that if a shrieking woman with her arm extended and a flat palm on the end of it is moving quickly towards her she should probably move, because yes, her butt was going to get smacked. Boy was she slow about moving, and she had the nerve to act put out about it! Seriously! Upset that I was disturbing her nap!

So then I had to clean the whole worktable, throw away a bunch of nice flour, finish the bread kneading, and then … brush a flour and dough speckled cat who hates being brushed. Oh yes, that was fun for everyone. Maybe she’ll consider the ramifications of getting into flour and bread dough the next time that crazy thought crosses her mind.

I knew when all three cats had been nothing but sweetness and light for two whole days there would be something huge at some point, because there always is. Of course, I expected mayhem in my craft supplies or another mini-blind busted to bits. Never in a million years would I expect one of them to get on the kitchen table, even when it’s empty. To get on it and take a nap on my pile of flour? The thought of that happening didn’t even exist in my reality, because surely no cat living in this house could possibly be that stupid. Guess I was wrong about that, huh?

And other than that bit of excitement, nothing much happened today. Made bread, ate bread, worked in the depressing garden, did some writing, took a nap, had dinner. In other words, just another day at Casa de Orb. Maybe tomorrow will be more interesting … minus the cat badness, of course. I never want to see a cat oon my worktable again.
