Oh Texas, My Texas…

The person who shouted “baby killer” on the floor of the House last night while Bart Stupak was speaking has come forward and fessed up. It was Rep. Randy Neugebauer from somewhere in the Texas Panhandle. Though he insists he meant the bill was a “baby killer” and not Stupak, it doesn’t make much difference to me. Our elected officials should behave like adults while at work. And no, it doesn’t surprise me at all that it was a Texan who did it.

Speaking of Texas:

Texas will join other states in a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of federal health care legislation as soon as President Barack Obama signs the bill, Attorney General Greg Abbott said.

“To protect all Texans’ constitutional rights, preserve the constitutional framework intended by our nation’s founders, and defend our state from further infringement by the federal government, the State of Texas and other states will legally challenge the federal health care legislation,” Abbott said in a written statement late Sunday night after the U.S. House of Representatives approved the measure.

So even should this health care reform attempt to improve my own personal health care situation and manage to do so, the State of Texas is going to use my tax dollars to do everything in its power to make sure that doesn’t happen … because you know the State of Texas cares so damn much about its citizens, right? If Texas does somehow manage to exempt all us Texans from health care reform and said reform does end up being a beneficial and good thing for our existence, we will be moving out of this crappy third world country of a state. We’ve been getting tired of living here for a while now.

Or maybe Perry won’t get reelected as Governor, but I think that’s just a pipe dream. The majority of people in Texas are going to believe whatever lies they are told, so health care reform is bad and Perry will win, he will screw up health care in Texas even more … and we will find some much nicer state to live in. Hopefully, I end up being wrong, but I’ve lived in Texas my entire life, and I things always tend to go exactly as I expect they will, and I always expect them to go poorly here.

  1. Sadly, you’re likely correct. Having (regrettably) spent ten years in Texas prior to my escape in 2008, I never ceased to marvel at the ability of Texans to swallow whatever Right-wing propaganda was fed to them. Governor Goodhair will be re-elected handily, because most Texans would sooner vote for Satan than a Democrat.

Oh, and here’s my take the empty suit that is Rep. Neugebauer: http://whatwouldjackdo.net/2010/03/neugebauer-n-latin-for-ignorant-cretin-also-an-argument-for-abortion.html .
