I finally got curious enough about how the healing was going way back in my mouth, and since my tongue can’t reach back that far to assess the situation and it’s so far back there even my dental mirror doesn’t do me much good, I felt around with a finger. I was stunned to discover the gum has already pulled completely together. This is my first experience with an open hole in my mouth that didn’t get sutured shut at least a little, and I have to say, I am rather impressed with the healing ability of my body. Kudos to my body!
Now I just have to survive that horrible itchy feeling caused by the bone beginning to fill in, and quite honestly, it’s really more annoying than the previous pain. At least with pain, pills can be taken to get rid of it. There isn’t really anything to do about the sensation of bones knitting and nerves healing except try to ignore it. Hot tea seems to help, but I can’t constantly be drinking hot tea. Not that I won’t be doing a good bit of that today, because really … that itchy feeling is very bothersome.
It’s going to be cold today, but no rain is expected. We are expecting what we lovingly call a wintry mix –snow, sleet, and rain all mixed together– for the next two days, so I am going to have to get up off my butt as soon as the morning rush is over and get to some stores. On the agenda is PetsMart for a cat fur removal device, Hobby Lobby for a new seam ripper, and HEB for groceries. Then the usual housework, attending to cats’ needs, and hopefully some writing (or other creative endeavors). Going to be a busy day, but I want to get as much done today as possible so I can be stuck in the house and grumpy when the weather turns foul in relative comfort and with fulfilled needs. Nothing like discovering we’ve run out of milk when it’s too nasty to go to a store and get more. Not that I wouldn’t go get more, but I do try to avoid driving in “wintry mix” owing to Austin drivers not knowing how to drive even in a summer rain shower. Add a little ice and it really gets crazy.
Why, I might even find some time to write a blog post or two about something other than my dental health this week. Won’t that be nice?
