After a perfectly gross rainy morning, the sun came out this afternoon, and though chilly, the day ended up being rather lovely. Now the temperature is dropping fast, and it’s going to get very cold tonight. After a week of pleasantly warm weather, it feels even colder than it really is. Yuck. Nothing to be done about it though but keep my garden covered, keep the furnace cranked up high, and stay indoors.

Rumor has it we can expect our last freeze of the year in late February. I think it’s possible we’ll get an even later freeze than usual this year. The weather has been weird. I am ready and eager to get going with the early spring garden! I imagine I will ignore almost all the advice and start planting some things as early as my birthday, but the big push to plant may have to wait until the beginning of March. Boo.

I am ready for winter to be over and done with. I’ve been downright miserable with all this cold and wet all season. Looking forward to sunshine and warm wind … and gardening! Well, that’s a way off yet, so I supposed I’ll just go crank the furnace up one more notch, get the oven preheating for the pizza tonight, and put on another sweater. During the next few days, warm wind is going to be nothing but a dream.
