Since I don’t have anything else to talk about, why don’t I give you an update on our weather?
It’s been cold! Yes, it’s true. Really cold. Friday night it got down to 16ºF at my house, which is far too cold, and most of Saturday was very, very cold. But it was sunny, so at least there was that to be glad about. Saturday night it “only” got down to 20ºF, and it took it’s time warming up but did eventually get over 40ºF in the late afternoon. I put my tomato outside for a couple of hours of sunlight, and uncovered the beds for a bit as well. Looks like a few of the fava beans took some damage, but the broccoli and cauliflower grew inches the last few days. I guess they really like the cold weather.
It’s still almost 40ºF right now, but it’s supposed to get down to 20ºF again tonight. Boo. Hiss. Thankfully, we are expecting the temperatures to climb somewhat this week, though it’s still going to be close to freezing every night, and they are saying it will be cloudy and rainy all well. I won’t complain about the upcoming rain though, because the garden does need to be watered, and there is no way in hell I plan to stand out in the cold and water it. So, yeah for rain, even though I know we will get too much I will end up hating it.
The reason I don’t have anything but the weather to talk about is because all the cats and humans in this household have pretty much been in complete hibernation mode and huddling together near heat sources for the last two days. Can’t complain about a lazy weekend, though I can (and have been) complaining about this outrageous cold spell.
I am super-duper ready for winter to be over and spring to arrive. I want to get moving on the spring/summer garden. The winter garden is not only boring me to tears, it’s depressing.
Now I have to go find some way to convince Lin he should be the one to go get the fried chicken fast food for dinner. As much as I a) don’t want to cook and b) want some crispy fried chicken, I do not, under any circumstances, want to go out into the cold. :P
