Disgusting Weather
December 1st, 2009 - 6:55 pm
This disgusting winter weather is wholly unappreciated. Next week it could freeze or snow or whatever it wants to do, but this week I was looking forward to my four day vacation at my mom’s house and being OUTSIDE for all the OUTDOOR activities planned for the museum grand opening. Now it’s going to be super cold and muddy. Boo.
Nothing much to report today other than that it’s cold and wet and nasty, and I ache all over, and my ear is still unhappy, and my mood is in the dumps. Yup, that about sums it all up. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate winter? Not all of winter. Sunny but cold days can be great, but this is going to be a gray and wet winter, and that’s the kind of winter I hate. Blech.
Since it isn’t supposed to actually drop below freezing tonight, I’ve covered the two tomato plants with trash bags and pulled their pots up close to the house on the porch. The garden itself is totally on its own. Tomorrow, I’m going to try to clear a spot in the Box Room for the tomato plants, somewhere they’ll get sunlight (so I don’t have to haul them in and out every day). I also need to decide what to do about the garden proper when it freezes. To be honest, I am finding I don’t really care enough to get too energetic about building anything to support plastic or blankets or whatnot. Many of the plants are supposed to be able to survive a light freeze (which is the kind we get here), and some of them say they can survive down to 20ºF.
I have no idea about any of that, never having grown these particular plants or anything at all during the winter before. I just know I am not all that attached to my garden right now, and the thought of spending a lot of time outside tomorrow trying to devise a way to protect the plants from any freeze or ice doesn’t sound like any fun at all. Chances are very high the plants out there will be left entirely on their own to survive or not. Except the potatoes. I may cover the potatoes. And the lettuce. Or … not. Depends on how awful the weather is tomorrow during the day. My ear and I do not want to be out in a bunch of muck for hours building things with cold hands.
Now I’m going to go take more aspirin and patiently wait for Lin to get home so we can eat our White Castles and fries. Yeah, I’m going ALL out for dinner tonight! Better not be any griping, because I feel like total crud and microwave burgers and oven fries is just about the best it’s going to get from my kitchen tonight. No energy, and I just … ACHE.
Oh, and my ear is showing a lot of improvement today. Hearing is almost back to 100%, and the swelling has really gone down. Still hurts like hell from time to time, but I guess in another couple of days this awful ear problem will be a thing of the past. This has been officially the worst middle ear infection I have ever had, and I hope to never have one this bad again. Absolutely dreadful.
Tomorrow will be better, right? Oh, probably not.
