I didn't look too closely at how they figured it out. It sounded like a weird way to do it to me too. But I do know people around here do waste a lot of food. Maybe not so much at home, but at restaurants, I see plates still full of food heading back to the trash all the time. I get it, because the portions at most restaurants are so HUGE, I can eat three meals off one dinner plate. The answer would be normal portions, but everyone wants their plate to be overflowing, so I doubt that will ever happen. Heaven forbid someone be brought a 6 oz steak instead of a pound. :P

These stats were established by deciding that the average american weight is the weight of someone who eats 60% of the average amount of food bought in the usa.

I find it hard to see this as a remotely reliable metric. For starters it considers cycling to work instead of driving to be wasting food, because you will weigh less than you would if you ate what you eat.

Ha, that can't be true. I'm fairly certain 150% of the alcohol sold in Scotland is drunk, if the Scots I've known are any indicator. LOL!

I've never trusted that kind of statistic since it was proven that 50% of the alcohol sold in Scotland is drunk.
