House of Sick Continues

I’m finally baking some bread. It’s been about two weeks. Maybe longer. Oh sure, I’ve made bread sticks and biscuits and cornbread, all things that can be made super quickly, but we haven’t had a loaf of bread in the house in weeks. Alas, there isn’t enough stew for two full bowls for dinner, so I need to make some grilled cheese sandwiches to supplement the meal … and do bread was required. Making it was easier than going to the store to buy some, because my head is throbbing too badly to be around human beings (or to drive, I hate driving with a bad headache).

Yeah, I’m still not feeling so great. Not quite ill enough to declare myself bedridden, but definitely something is going on with my immune system. Lin’s too, though he’s in total denial about being sick. You know … he NEVER gets sick. I’ve had reports from friends all over San Antonio and Austin though that there is some kind of creeping crud going around, and the flu is already hitting Austin, from what I read (and it’s mostly the new flu too). Almost all my local friends are either sick right now or have been recently.

Whatever it is we have, it doesn’t seem too bad yet. It’s just really aggravating when my head is throbbing pretty much non-stop for days on end. Analgesics aren’t doing anything for the headache except make it more of a dull roar rather than a loud shout. The only thing I have taken that makes the head stop hurting is Nyquil, but obviously I can’t take Nyquil 24/7. Not if I want to be conscious. Even the Dayquil or the non-drowsy Nyquil knocks me on my butt, but then even aspirin makes me drowsy. I’m just sensitive to most medications, which really kind of sucks.

But the bread is rising and in a few hours there will be that wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread filling the house. It’s always such a mood lifter. And then … we get to eat it! The eating of it is really the very best part of homemade bread!

I’ve got some photos I want to post, and then I’ll be moving to the couch to continue knitting on that shawl. I want to have it done by the weekend, so I can wear it!
