Hard, Hot Work

It’s absolute misery to work outside today. It’s not that it’s hot –only 93ºF– but there’s rain in the area so it’s humid, and there is no breeze at all. Just dead, sticky, hot air with the sun beating down between some puny clouds. Yuck.

Even though it took forever, because I had to keep coming into the house to cool off and drink more cold water, I did get the potato holes dug and the potatoes planted. I also planted some radishes and carrots, pulled up the last of this spring’s carrots, and massacred a bunch of aphids on my pepper plants. Then I watered everything really well. I am not counting on it raining, no matter what the weatherman says. Of course, now it will probably rain, but that’s OK. More water on the garden would be fine.

The soil temps are still way too high to plant any of the fall crops. I am becoming annoyed about this, and if I had somewhere to start them indoors, I would. Alas, I don’t. Therefore, I must wait for the seasons to change. Though I really can’t wait too much longer.

After I have replenished my internal water supply and take a quick shower, I think I’ll go take some garden photos. They won’t be too terribly exciting, but you know, I’m excited there’s something going on in the garden again!

I officially hate digging with a shovel. Hate it!
