Puttered in the garden this morning. I cut back some more of the tomato plants, pulled the usual weeds, and picked this morning’s allotment of pear tomatoes. Not to much going on out in the garden. It’s been too hot even for most of the weeds to survive.
More of the cantaloupe seeds sprouted, and the dill I recently cut back (harvested) has begun to grow some new branches. I’ll take whatever meager good gardening news as I can get, now that we are well into the doldrums of summer. It sure would be nice to have a day when the temperature didn’t go over 100º. It’s already a little over 90º outside, and today is going to be another scorcher. Yuck.
Mom had her last follow-up appointment with the eye doctor yesterday. Her cataract surgery was a smashing success! It’s completely healed now, and she’s got 20/20 vision in that eye. Yes, I am jealous. Since her other eye isn’t bothering her yet, we have all decided it’s best to wait until it does. Besides, we need to see how all the Medicare and insurance sorts out to see how much this is going to end up costing when all is said and done. I suppose we should have looked into that more before proceeding, but the fact is, she was going blind in that eye. It had to be done, even if it does end up leaving us with some large medical bills (which I don’t think it will). Mom’s stressing about the bill aspect of it all, but she is very happy with her new vision. When Mom is happy, I am happy, so it’s all going to be worth it.
Though the allergy forecast says there isn’t much of anything in the air this week, my nose knows there is something disturbing it. I can’t stop sneezing, and I am starting to get congested. Since it’s Friday (and this has really been the week from hell), I think I’ll take an allergy pill and breath for a while. Of course, this will lead to extreme laziness, but hey … it’s Friday, right? I can call it the weekend early, if I want!
