Must Distract the Birds

I want a bird feeder and bird bath in the back yard.

The birds aren’t going to go away, and so long as there are birds, they will be interested in my garden. I’m thinking I need to accommodate and distract them with services designed just for them.

Of course, I don’t really want to spend any money on a bird bath and bird feeder, so I am looking around at the assorted bric-a-brac of my life to see what could be made into such things. Surely we have something that could be put together to serve such purposes! I think I’ll set Lin’s brain to work on this over the weekend. He sometimes has some really unique ideas on how to solve problems involving building things, being an engineer sort of guy and all. A bird bath and bird feeder is sort of a tower-like structure, right?

Here are some links to some interesting homemade bird bath ideas:

I really like the flower pot ideas. I don’t happen to have any larger clay flower pots, but Mom might have some she wouldn’t mind parting with … or I might be able to find some at the Habitat Re-Store. In fact, I might be able to find a bird bath there for a good price too.

But I really don’t want to spend any money on this project. I’m just going to keep looking at our collected possessions with an eye toward repurposing something. Like the hubcaps off my old VW and some of the large branches from the cut down tree. Now that might work!

Though I better run it by Lin and then get him to build it. We know I am not a builder of things. Not long lasting things anyway.
