Behind the cut are two photos of the latest unknown bug to be found in my garden. I’m going to post a question about them at AskMetafilter later, but maybe someone reading my blog knows what the hell they are.
I have spent hours and hours looking at photos of bugs and reading about bugs and typing every imaginable descriptor into Google and coming up with nothing. In fact, the only thing I got out of the whole process is that I itch all over from looking at and thinking about bugs too much!

For size reference, the tomatoes they are climbing around on are about 1″-1.5″ in length.
I have those, too. Do these have wings? Maybe an immature stage, which is why it’s hard to match the picture.
http://www.whatsthatbug.com/ is pretty good…
None of mine have wings. I did visit that site earlier and saw a few things that were close, but not quite that very bug. So it could be an immature variety of something.
They didn’t look like they were doing anything beneficial, so rather safe than sorry, I sprayed them with my soapy-hot-pepper-water, which killed them dead in under 15 seconds. If they end up being good bugs, I’ll have to feel bad about that, but I didn’t get the feeling they were hanging out on my tomatoes trying to help me any.
