Bloodshed and Loss of Sleep
June 2nd, 2009 - 7:16 am
The cats lost their minds last night. This has been a recurring issue, and it is directly related to the recent change in feeding pattern (i.e. they are no longer getting a late-night snack, because they are all far too fat for snacks). I’m sure they will eventually adapt to the new food situation. I just hope there isn’t too much destruction, bloodshed, and loss of sleep until that happens.
Last night, the sound of cat claws on something woke me up. It wasn’t in the bedroom, and it wasn’t even in the hall, so whatever it was being abused by cat claws at 3 am, it was being abused excessively loudly to have penetrated my fast-asleep ears. I made a pshhht sound, which was followed by cat silence, so I drifted back to sleep (after Tweeting my annoyance and lying there being grouchy about being awake at 3 am).
This morning, I was informed by my husband the thing the cats were abusing so loudly with their claws at 3 am had been mostly his leg. He was asleep on the loveseat and one of the cats (unknown which one) flew over him, and in the process shredded his inner thigh. Six very ugly scratches remained as proof of the crime.
All three of them joined me on the bed some time later, and as soon as my alarm started going off, I had a steady procession of cats tromping back and forth over my ribcage and licking my nose in an attempt to convince me it was time to fill their bowls NOW. I ignored them for 30 minutes, but eventually even my Cat Ignoring Superpower isn’t good enough to ignore three cats working together to wake me. I challenge anyone to successfully ignore a combined total weight of some 50 pounds of cats walking and sitting on them and continue to be able to to enjoy a good morning snooze session. I don’t think it’s humanly possible to do.
I’m not giving in on the late-night snack for the cats. Ronin is ridiculously obese, Myu has been getting more “fluffy” lately as well, and even little Tora would be best described as pudgy. The new feeding schedule stands … no matter how much they abuse my husband in the wee hours of the morning. ![]()
