Upon inspection of the potatoes this morning, there can be little doubt in my mind that my garden has a case of early blight. Last summer was too hot and dry, never had a problem with any blight on the tomatoes. This year has been warm and wet … blight. I am in a panic. No really, and actual panic.
Some people say that once there’s blight in your garden, spraying fungicides won’t do any good … the only thing to do is pull up all the infected plants and burn them. Other people say spraying with fungicides and pruning works to at least control the blight until harvest. I can’t very well yank up every infected plant. I would have exactly zero tomato plants left, and I refuse to believe a torched earth policy is necessary. Therefore, I’m going to prune the heck out of everything –tomatoes and potatoes– and try to find a fungicide I can live with, I don’t care if it’s organic or deadly to the environment. I refuse to lose all the tomatoes and potatoes. It’s just too late to replant them and start over.
Devastated. I am totally devastated. If this wipes out all my tomatoes, I promise you I will actually cry about it.
