Future Corn

Future Corn

I must say I was quite surprised to see the beginnings of tassels on some of the corn today. It seems early, but I guess the corn knows what to do.

And oh my gods, the aphids. I am so sick of aphids. Due to my not having spent a great deal of time in the garden smashing the things this week, they had run rampant on a few plants. This year, it’s mostly tiny black aphids, which appear to be bean aphids. Thing is they are on everything BUT the beans. Completely weird.

But on the whole, the garden is still doing fine. Once I get the aphids under control again, even they won’t be too much of a trouble.

Now I have to go rinse off the (hopefully) dead aphids. I don’t like leaving the soap residue on my plants. I don’t know that it does any harm, but why take the chance? Besides, it’s an excuse to be outside. Even though it’s super humid and quite warm today, it’s not all that unpleasant.

  1. I’ve seen corn growing around, but I’ve never actually looked at it until eating it. Tomorrow, I need to look up what stages corn goes through. I know at some point there are tassels. I guess all corn gets tassels.
