Mom’s Garage Guests

Mom has been complaining the last two days about the noisy birds that nested somewhere in the garage. She looked for them but never found them. Well, today she found out what was making the noise, and it wasn’t birds. It’s a blurry cell phone photo taken by my overly excited mother, but I think the noise-makers are easy enough to identify.

Mom\'s Raccoons

Now if I can just get my mother to stop touching them, stop hovering over them, stop picking them up, and stop falling in love with them … and just freaking completely ignore them … she should be raccoon free in a couple of weeks. I’ve been telling her to go inside the house over the course of the last two hours, and I have yet to succeed at convincing her to leave the raccoons ALONE, so the momma can come get them. They look to be about 8-10 weeks old, so they’ll all be shuffling along to other digs soon enough.

But oh … they are cute, aren’t they? Still, I’d rather have possums. Raccoons can be destructive in ways possums could only dream to be.

Not that we have possums at the moment. They always move along when the weather gets hotter. Who wants to live by a water heater when it’s 80ºF at night? We need to block the under-house entrances soon, so we will have possums again in the fall.

  1. I want (baby) raccoons! Yeah I know about the destructive bit but they are sooo cute! Probably best to leave them alone though…don’t want to be out there cuddling them when momma comes along…

  2. They are adorable. I’m pretty sure I’d have trouble keeping myself from hovering over them and touching them too. All I ever get though are cranky old possums. :P
