The Great Coffee Crisis

After having a variety of crappy things happen today, the top-most thought in my head is “Where the hell am I going to start buying really decent coffee beans for no more than $6 a pound and a minimum amount of personal hassle?!” I seriously believe I am experiencing a panic attack caused entirely by this coffee crisis.

My grocery store is letting me down in a big way. We’ve been buying a few different kinds of their store-brand coffee beans for years now, and we like them well-enough. Some of them, we even love. But it appears my grocery store isn’t ever going to restock their store-brand coffee beans, or any coffee beans of any sort. I am, naturally, completely and utterly morose about this turn of events.

Reluctantly and with much regret, I purchased ground coffee that claims to work with all coffee machines. Anything that claims to do everything may actually do everything, but it won’t do any of them well. I’m certain the ground coffee will be processed by my espresso machine to create a tolerable cup of coffee. It just won’t be a wonderful cup of coffee.

[way too many paragraphs of coffee snobbery deleted]

OMG!!!! My grocery store is out of coffee beans!!!

I don’t think they are ever getting any more coffee beans!!!!

We are all going to die!!!

Seriously though, I do need to find somewhere convenient to buy coffee beans for about $6 a pound. Anyone out there buy their coffee online (or through catalogs) or belong to one of those monthly coffee clubs? Suggestions for places to get coffee beans of worth within a few miles of Lamar and Rundberg (Austin, TX)?

Footnotes
  1. It's true. I am a coffee snob. Oh, I'll drink any coffee available, provided there's milk/creamer and sugar, but at home, I am a coffee snob. I simply cannot and refuse to live without coffee beans to grind myself. There is absolutely no way that any coffee bought pre-ground and bagged will ever satisfy me. []

  1. Oh, no I hadn’t thought about roasting my own, but now I am. In fact, I think next week I’m going to order some beans from them, and then my descent into coffee snobbery will almost be complete.

And to think, I’ve only been a coffee drinker for a year.
