I got my sponge started for bread this morning, but I didn’t feel like dealing with it, so it will wait until tomorrow morning. I’ll add a little more flour and water later, and it’ll be fine. I’m just not up to making a mess of the entire kitchen, and serious bread baking always makes a mess.

But, we need bread tonight, so I’m trying a different recipe that is supposed to be similar to the bread at Schlotzky’s (a sandwich place, for those who might not know). Pretty basic recipe, only one rise, no kneading, and the addition of a bit of baking soda. If it fails, we’ll be having last night’s leftovers (chicken) made into a big salad. If it works, we’ll be having huge and hearty sandwiches. I’m skeptical about it turning out, but I think that’s just because my bread-making confidence was shaken by the recent semi-failure. I guess I’ll find out in about an hour.

Nothing much at all going on around here today. Slept late. Didn’t feed my husband. Didn’t eat lunch myself. Took a nap. Read the news. Pulled a few weeds in the garden. Yup, quite an exciting day of laziness. In other words, it was a perfect Sunday!
