I have a question for all my readers and friends who have school-aged children. Well, actually, I have a few questions.
- How much homework does your child/children have to do each night? On the weekends?
- What grade(s) are they currently in?
- What are your feelings on homework (generally)?

I don’t have children in school, and I haven’t been involved with any schools in any capacity for quite some time, so I need some information from those of you who know more about the subject than I do … before I go off on a rant. ;)
My daughter is currently in Kindergarten…and from what I remember when I was in grade K was we had homework every night. Drawing and coloring a picture was homework each night to be turned in the next day …sometimes we’d have ‘extra’ homework in conjunction with the drawing and coloring…i.e.: practicing writing our names, reading a book (and having a parent sign that we read said book), preparing something for show ‘n tell, etc.
Well, that was in NJ and I now live in Oregon, where I believe (despite my daughter showing some very good reading skills), that the public school system here is far inferior…for reasons I just won’t go into here. She gets a homework folder every Monday filled with either actual homework or things that I get to read and keep. She has to have the homework finished and turned in by Thursday and that still counts as being on time. Mostly, it’s just a few sheets of practicing ABC’s (i.e.: write what comes between w and y?), etc.
Does that answer your question? :ugone2far
Yes, thanks!
My son is 14, he is in 8th grade and it seems like he has a lot of homework that needs to be done, but I never see it. I think he rushes through it at school but I don’t see a lot of it being done here. His grades really suck in some classes, so I assume my theory is correct.
