Yesterday’s mini-migraine was a full-blown migraine when I woke up this morning. I barely remember making Lin’s coffee, though I know I did. I crawled back into bed and slept in, hoping my head would stop feeling quite so ouchy. Sort of worked. I’m back to having a mini-migraine, rather than a full-blown one, and it seems to be diminishing as the day goes on. Of all the various physical pains I occasionally have to deal with, the migraines are the worst. They just suck the life right out of me. Thankfully, I haven’t been getting them as often as I used to … knock on wood.
I puttered in the garden for a while, pulling weeds. Upon closer inspection of the things coming up in Bed Two, I can’t tell if they are weeds or intended plants. When something only has two leaves, it can be hard to tell. Some of the things planted in Bed Two are things I haven’t seen a seedling of before, so that makes it even more difficult. Therefore, all the baby plants in Bed Two are getting a reprieve from my constant weeding until I can determine which is which. Shouldn’t take too long for any of them to get more leaves. Everything in the garden is growing so fast!
I did recognize two Brandywine tomato seedlings though! At this point, even if none of the pineapple tomatoes come up, we’ll have plenty of tomato plants. I’m a little concerned that the pineapple tomatoes are popping up yet, but those are seeds I saved from a tomato bought at the farmers market, so it isn’t like they have a 90% germination guarantee attached to them. I’m going to try starting some in my starter trays. I’d like at least one of that kind of tomato. I also recognized some of the Roma tomatoes coming up. So, provided I don’t kill them or the weather or bugs don’t kill them, we will have tomatoes at some point.
Not much else going on around here today. With my head still pounding somewhat, I’m not really up to doing too much, even though I’d like to work on the cushion for my outdoor lounge chair, build my trellises, and put together that table out of the old wagon. But wanting to do something and having the energy and willpower to do it is always two very different things. Instead of doing what I would like to be doing, I am getting the laundry done, and then the dishes and planning dinner. Tomorrow is another day, and maybe I’ll feel up to being creative and using tools.
And no cats dug around in the peanut and potato bed last night. In fact, I found no cat foot prints at all, which I always found every morning, whether or not they’d decided to use it as a litter box. I guess my Bamboo Death Trap worked. I hope it keeps working. Behind the cut, there’s a photo of my bamboo handiwork.

Like I said, you wouldn’t want to fall on it. It was the only thing I could think of to deter the cats. I considered a fence of some sort, but knowing that Sasha jumps over not only the 3 foot tall portions of our back yard fence but the 6 foot tall wooden gate, with no trouble at all, a fence didn’t seem to be the answer. Spikes of bamboo torture was easy, and so far, seems to be working.
