I was all excited this morning, because two of the peanuts were starting to pop up through the soil level. I don’t know exactly what kind of peanuts I planted, so I need to see a leaf to identify them. I went out late this afternoon to pluck some radishes and lettuce for dinner and do a little weeding. Lo and behold, a cat had dug around and pooed in the peanut bed … and shredded both of the peanuts that were about to come up. ARGH!
The peanut bed now looks like some sort of deadly jungle bamboo trap. I would not suggest falling onto it. I cut down some of the dry bamboo, snipped it into five inch lengths with sharp points, and planted a spike every five inches. Hopefully, that will deter any more cat digging and pooing until the plants are up and covering the dirt too much to make using it as a litter box convenient. I’ll have to post a photo tomorrow, because it’s pretty darn funny looking.
In better garden news, it looks like some of the tomato seeds have finally sprouted. I didn’t take much time to look closely. Tomorrow, I will hover appropriately close enough to determine if it’s weeds or tomatoes growing. Creating the bamboo death trap in the peanut bed took up my pre-sunset weeding time. Whatever I noticed coming up is coming up right where I planted seeds, so I’m hoping it’s actually tomato plants!
Time for bed. I’ve had a migraine all day, so some of the garden tasks I meant to do today did not get done. Hope my head is better tomorrow. I have to start planning the tomato trellises and mulch my walkways.
