Overcast Day

I finally got around to cleaning up the overflowed sourdough starter mess on top of my fridge. Yuck. It wasn’t nasty, since all it’s really just flour, yeast, and water (i.e. a very liquid bread dough), but it was sticky. I poured what remained into a large glass bowl, fed it, and now it’s sitting on my kitchen worktable. Once it gets a little frothy, I’m going to put a cup of it into a container for storing in the fridge (no more daily feedings – it’ll be weekly now), and the rest I’m going to proof for the sponge for tomorrow’s bread. Or late-night bread tonight. I have no idea when it will be ready, so it may decide it wants to move on before tomorrow comes. I’m just going to play it by ear … or maybe hurry it along by proofing it in my oven and intentionally baking bread late tonight. I am totally winging it on this sourdough bread project.

I got cookies made today and the kitchen restored to cleanliness. That’s about all I did today. It’s been overcast, and I’m hormonally-challenged today. The rest of the household chores can wait until tomorrow. Except the laundry, which I’ll start whenever Lin gets home in today’s dirty clothes. I didn’t even do anything in the garden today, which doesn’t mean I didn’t wander out there and hover a few times. I have to keep an eye on my baby plants! I do wish it would rain though. A nice deep soaking of water would be perfect for the seeds I planted the other day. I was going to water today, but the weatherman says it may rain. I’ll give him until tomorrow to prove he’s right. Then, I will have to water a little, if there’s been no rain.

Tonight we are having a Digorno frozen pizza for dinner. I know … weird of me, isn’t it? They were on sale, and Lin said we should try having one again, since we used to like them a lot. I knew I wasn’t going to feel like cooking anything tonight, so why not have frozen pizza? I don’t expect it to be anywhere near as good as the ones I make, but they might make a nice alternative to the frozen White Castle burgers I usually toss in the microwave on those nights I know I do not want to cook. Those are OK, but not the greatest insta-food ever. Besides, we like pizza better than we like burgers anyway.

I wish Lin would get home so I could get the laundry going. I also wish it would just go ahead and RAIN! It feels like it wants to rain. It looks like it wants to rain. It just isn’t raining. Bah. I guess I’ll go hover over my sourdough starter a while, and try to find something to keep it in when I move it to the fridge. Maybe Lin will be here by the time I get that done. I’m hungry, tired, and cranky, and I just want to plop onto the couch and veg. I can’t do that until the laundry is started and the man is fed. So, hurry up and get home, Lin!
