So far, the promised amazing amount of rain equals .10 of an inch. Woo freaking hoo. I’m hoping the forecast is correct, and we get a bunch more today. We really, really need it.
And rain, being completely magical, has caused much growth in the garden! OK, some of it was probably already happening last night, and I just didn’t notice. The bush cucumbers are pushing their heads up, as are more beans, the dill†, and some of the corn! And the flowers I planted in my hanging basket are all sprouting, and the newest batch of seedlings are doing great. The potatoes still aren’t doing anything noticeable. Hopefully, that will change sometime this week.
I’m going to have to thin the carrots and lettuce again soon. They are both really taking off. Everything continues to go pretty good in the garden. This makes me very happy!
Now if I can just keep the bugs off the beans. Some of them have been seriously chewed on already. I wish I’d bought two packs of seeds. I could really use them to replace losses. Might have to pick up some of whatever kind of bush bean I can find next time I’m somewhere that sells seeds. Two have already been chewed off before they had a chance, and two more are looking so chewed on they could best be described as ratty and feeble. I’m not sure they’ll make it.
Since the first batch of dill seeds is up now, I’m going to press some more seeds into the earth this morning. I love dill. It’s one of my favorite herbs, and it’s pretty too!
Looking forward to this weekend and starting to plant in the second bed. I’m still very nervous about starting tomatoes from seed. It seems so risky in so many ways, and unless I can find some cheap tomato plants, I don’t know I can afford to buy any. I’ll have to get at least one, because really … I need tomato insurance!
Off to stick some dill seeds in the first garden bed, and then I guess I’ll amble around the dark and dreary rainy-day house and try to find something to entertain myself with. I am totally hopped up on coffee right now, and I want to DO something. :dizzy:
Footnotes- † Dill seedlings look nothing at all like the adult plant. I wasn’t sure at first that they weren’t weeds. Good thing I didn’t pull them up! [↩]
