Right To Vote

Fifteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution:

Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Nineteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution:

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.

Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

While I will agree the U.S. Consitution never specifically states that U.S. citizens have the right to vote, it’s a little foolhardy to argue they don’t … seeing as the “right to vote” is mentioned in these two amendments. The right to vote would have to exist in order to it be denied, and then protected by these amendments.

All the same, I just read some comments on a news story where people were arguing that Americans don’t have a right to vote, and that perhaps “some” people shouldn’t be allowed to vote … being as it’s a privilege and all. They never did say who should have the privilege or who should be denied voting power, but I can use my imagination.
