Appointment Set

On the morning of March 17th, poor Tora will be going to the vet clinic to get fixed, vaccinated, and potentially microchipped. It’ll be her first trip outside the house. I can only imagine what fun that will be. I am also not wanting to imagine life with a cat in heat for a week. I’m almost certain she is, though she isn’t being as obnoxious as other cats I have witnessed. Myu wasn’t either, and we had to wait from November 29th until December 21st for her to get into the vet (the vet’s doing, not mine). It was slightly more complicated with Myu owing to her brother also having functioning testicles at the time. I had to watch them like a hawk and separate them at night when I couldn’t keep an eye on them. This time I just have to keep Tora from running outside where evil unfixed Toms lurk, and that doesn’t seem to be a problem. She’s totally in LOVE with Ronin, who finds this whole thing bothersome. At least no worries about potential kitty pregnancy though, thank heavens.

They didn’t call to set the appointment. They emailed, which was fine by me, as my hands have been in mud and bread dough and dish water all afternoon. Though that means I didn’t get to ask if it was going to be for free. Since their free spring break cat-fixin’ is from March 16-21, and her appointment is the 17th, I guess so. I might call tomorrow to verify it, but I hate asking. Free stuff like that is for really poor people, and well, I prefer to not think of us as being quite that poor (even though sometimes we are). I’ll take money just in case. They are also asking for donations of old towels. I was going to use my old towels to make a bath rug, but I think I’ll give them to the clinic instead. I’m sure I’ll accumulate more eventually.

I’m just glad she’s going to get fixed soon and have her rabies shot. Still haven’t decided on the microchipping. I’m torn. We had once discussed having the other two chipped, because it is a good thing, but there is a slight risk of something going wrong. I hate gambling with the life of my pets, even when the odds are in my favor. Guess I’ll talk about it with Lin and see what he says.

  1. If the microchip is free for some towels, along with the rabies shot and spaying, grab it. They must have some vet medicine students practicing for it to be free.

Microchips need to be activated, like cell phones, and that’s not free. You’ll get a bill from the monitoring service, one time, for them to enter Tora into the database and maintain their call center for vets and shelters. My old kitty just turned 17 and his chip wasn’t cheap, but neither was there any complication. You’ll just feel a small bump under the skin between the shoulder blades. Of course, once chipped, they never run away anyway.

  2. It would have been a bargain had I had to pay the $60 for it. We were raped by that other vet, and her work wasn’t so great. Seriously, it cost over a thousand dollars to get both cats fixed and their first year shots. We were still in the “post cat death from cancer” stage of freaking out, so we gladly paid it. We have since come to our senses. And she was always so snooty too. When I pay $150 to carry two cats through the door, before anything is even done, I expect to be treated nicely, at least.

I’m going to ask some questions about the chip. Probably end up doing it, because Tora came from outside, and sometimes, she does make a run for the door. It’s just anytime anyone mentions “cancer” and “cats” in the same sentence, I get a bit freaked. Losing a cat to cancer was one of the worst things to go through. Of course, losing one to euthanasia because they couldn’t find me while they sat at a shelter would be just about as awful.

Of course, once chipped, they never run away anyway.

Well, that’s a given, of course, and so very cat-like. :D
