A Tan? No.

Today’s UV index was 7, which means a normal person can spend 30 minutes out in the sunlight before doing damage to their skin. Of course, I have spent about five total hours out in the sun today, and my skin is not that of a normal person. At the moment, I look like I have a nice tan, but years of experience watching my skin interact with sunlight means I know as soon as I take a cool shower, it will turn at least pink … and there will be no tan at all. I don’t think I got a bad burn, but I know I did get a burn. Only the power of the cool shower will reveal the severity, which is why I am putting off taking said shower and having a nice cup of iced coffee.

In my previous state of panic, I went outside and transplanted five Yellow Pear tomato seedlings, one Brandywine tomato seedling, and three Bell Pepper seedlings into large pots with good, rich, moist soil. While sorting out which were which by looking at the chart in my notebook, I noticed that all these seedlings were from the second attempt. They aren’t nearly as old as I thought they were, and so … they are probably the right size for their age of four weeks. Oops. Oh well. I’m sure they will do better in the larger pots anyway. Or they’ll die. Who knows. It’s all one grand experiment.

I think I won’t be doing anything outside tomorrow, except maybe watering the raised bed in the morning. Though if it’s another beautiful day, you know I might not be able to resist doing something outside. I guess it depends on how close to the color of a lobster I am when I finally go take that cool shower my skin is telling me I need to go take … like right now.

I’m fried in more ways than one. Thank heavens for leftovers or we’d all starve tonight.
