The first six square feet of my first raised bed is now planted with carrots, scallions, lettuce, Calendula, and one Nasturtium! Nothing much to show for it, seeing as it was all seeds, aside from the two Calendula seedlings. But it’s done! Now there’s going to be the horrible waiting to see if things come up or not. Oh, how I hate the waiting.
Of course, while I was getting together my tools and whatnot to begin the planting, I ran across a small problem: the water hose attached to the spigot at the front of the house, the only outdoor source of running water I currently have, won’t reach the garden area. I know at some point we had a hose that was long enough, because I know I had a hose pulled back there at some point, but the one attached today won’t. Not willing to allow something like a lack of available water to keep me from planting some seeds today, I got creative and made a watering bottle.

Obviously not something one would want to do a lot of watering with, but it works well enough for watering freshly planted seeds and seedlings and other small things that need gentle watering. Of course, as soon as I finished watering my newly planted things with my new fancy watering bottle, I saw another water hose hiding in the grass. This explains how I had a hose pulled all the way back there before. I had two hoses connected together. Even that is really not an ideal solution, and rest assured, I will be pestering my dear husband about getting me outdoor water access in the back yard very soon.
Speaking of watering, I want to go spritz a couple more bottles of water on the new planting area, and I probably need to check the containers on the porch as well. It’s such a beautiful day today, I may sit out on the porch and knit for a while. I know I said I was going to tackle the mess in the front flower bed today, but I find I don’t feel like doing it now. I am never going to feel like doing it, but maybe some morning I will drink a bunch of coffee and just go to town on that weedy, grassy mess. Today is not that day. I’ve had enough stooping, bending, stretching, and kneeling for a while.
