Everything’s on Sale

Grocery shopping yesterday was weird. The store was so empty. Far more empty than I have ever seen it on a Friday morning. Just me and a bunch of friendly elderly men. Old men are funny. They are so sweet and flirty in that old man sort of way. I always flirt back, because it’s just so harmless. They flirt like gentlemen and stick to the old rules of chivalry, which I always like. They like paying attention to a younger woman and getting attention back, and I like feeling younger than somebody. Though the fact it’s 70 year old guys paying attention to me now and not 40 year old guys is sometimes disheartening. Thankfully, I no longer put too much of my self-worth into how pretty I am.

Then there were the prices on things. So many bargains. I spent $60, which was more than I had intended to spend, but I actually had to make three trips to the truck to bring it all in, and that hasn’t happened in a while. The pantry is pleasantly stocked, and we have all manner of snacks and goodies. I even got several pounds of bosch pears for $1! Crazy! Pears are never that cheap. Really surprising was that the $60 total included a pound of shrimp and some household supplies, both of which are usually pricey. Seriously, prices have dropped and there were so many things on sale. Felt good to spend so little and have an almost full basket to show for it. For a few months now, I’ve been spending that much and being able to put it all in the front seat and carry it into the house with one trip. I like feeling like we’ll be able to eat well for a few weeks without having to worry about food prices. May not even have to go shopping for anything other than snacks and beverages next week, and won’t that be nice as well!

Hope the low prices stay low. It’s nice not having to wonder if we’ll be able to afford the foods we like eating. Also hope the little old men keep flirting. That’s kind of nice too!

Footnotes
  1. Not that I am don’t think I’m still pretty. Not looking for compliments. As far as aging goes, I’m doing just fine though and am happy with the way things are going. I’m going to be the little old lady I always wanted to be … like my great aunts with their little cotton dresses, brightly colored cardigans, and their hair up in silvery French twists with the smell of fresh dirt and green things growing clinging to them. But still, sucks not to be so young anymore. []

  1. I’ve always liked older men for that reason; they tend to be more chivalrous and polite. They seem to have more to offer in terms of worldliness and having a interesting conversation.

    :D

  2. Always get a new and interesting perspective on things too. This time I got a conversation about growing up in the depression era and a great recipe for steamed pears.

And they have the best jokes too.

  3. Too few dollars chasing too many goods = price deflation. Great for those with steady revenue flow.

    “Not looking for compliments.” Liar.
