Pink Sink

Pink SinkLin was hanging out at Craigslist again, and he found this wonderful sink for an oh-so-right price. I hope we get it. The sink in the bathroom is awful, and there’s nothing to be done about it but replace it. It’s just old, and it was cheaply made when it was new. Of course, you will notice this sink would mean yet more pink in my all-too-pink bathroom. This doesn’t especially make me happy, but a better sink does make me happy, so I will live with more pink. Besides, if the bathroom ever weren’t pink, yellow, and purple, this sink wouldn’t be awful. In fact, it’s quite lovely!

So keep your fingers crossed for me! We really need that sink, and the price is just too good. We couldn’t even replace the faucets for what this whole thing will cost. Can’t beat that!

Also, does anyone know what can be done about changing the color of 1960′s counter-top material? The stuff in the bathroom is horrid 1960′s harvest gold fake-marble weirdness, but we can’t replace it (and don’t want to spend much since that bathroom will one day be gutted). Is there any kind paint that would work? Would contact paper work, or would it just peel up the first time it got wet and be a bigger mess? I need some ideas people! It seems a shame to put such a pretty sink into such a hideous counter-top!

  1. Do you all have a Habitat for Humanity store there in Austin? We’ve always found decent deals at ours. I’m getting ready to replace the flooring in the pantry and they have stick down vinyl tiles (I know vinyl tiles, not the best solution but the pantry is such a high traffic area since it is also the laundry room and entrance from house to garage) for less than $9/bx (27sq ft) If you do have one, go check it out

  2. Thanks for reminding me about that! Ours was closed for a long time while they moved to a different location (or they closed one or something, anyway they weren’t around). I know once I paint the kitchen white the gosh awful floor is really going to make me suicidal, and while I KNOW sticking more tiles on top of the layers of vinyl already there isn’t the RIGHT thing to do, I am tired of waiting for doing it right and now just want better. You know what I mean?

  3. There is a way to paint those counter tops. It has been done on a couple of apartments I have rented over the years. I looked at an apartment in Houston, and the counter tops were uglier than I am. I told the leasing agent how I felt, and she told me not to worry. they were resurfacing the counter tops. They did and they came out great. Some kind of epoxy based paint. covered the old ugly ass avocado colored counter tops in a shiny, creamy off white color that looked really nice. I bet it didn’t cost a lot either.
