Journal of Record

Tonight’s contemplation has been on the subject of garden journals.

The other night, Lin asked me if I had picked out my journal yet. I told him I thought I would just use spiral notebooks like I always do for note keeping and which I always have a plentiful supply on hand. But I’ve been thinking that maybe using nicer paper and keeping them either in a loose format or three-ring binder might be a better idea. I have a picture of what an awesome garden journal looks like, and my ugly spiral notebooks filled with Bic pen scribblings and chicken-scratch looking drawings are not it. And, OK … I’ll admit it: I am also thinking of future publication possibilities.

And so the not-quite-yet-a-garden has already spawned a side project: the garden journal. This means I now need to contemplate paper and writing implements, as well as what sort of binder to keep it all in. These decisions, they never cease!

Oh, and we are thinking of getting rid of the bamboo and replacing it with sugarcane this fall. A harebrained idea, to be sure, but we’ll probably do it anyway. We’re crazy like that. ;)

Also, while I despise Lowe’s and would neither give them my money nor print out their silly garden journal pages, they do have some good information on what kinds of information one should have in a useful and pleasant garden journal.

Footnotes
  1. I am, in fact, always thinking of future publication possibilities. I know there are books — yes, plural — in me. Good books. []
