I successfully managed to not oversleep or accidentally turn off my alarm by staying up all night doing my garden research. Though staying up all night was completely stupid, the time was well-spent and lead to Getting Things Done. I now know what plants I would like to plant, at least sometime in the future if not right now, and what varieties of said plants … as well as their space requirements and potential production quotas. Go me!

Now all I have to do is shoehorn as much as I safely can into the spaces I have available for planting, taking into full account the sun’s path across my property and how plant height will affect the shading of other plants, which could cause sun requirement problems.

I am, most likely, over-thinking all of this, but if I do a lot of thinking now, as the garden grows larger each year (or season), I will already have a general plan for its expansion. I only have to think about all this stuff once and keep careful notes.

Which reminds me that I need to decide what sort of journaling system I am going to use for all these gardening notes. I’ve decided keeping all my notes in the old fashioned pen/pencil/paper way is going to be the best, but I can’t decide if I want to get a large blank book or just use a loose-leaf binder. So many decisions!

The big decision right now is whether to go get some sleep now or do some more work on the garden layout and sleep later. It doesn’t really matter. The weather is going to be most foul today, and therefore, the only things I really have to do (or even intend to do) is wash the dishes and make dinner. I am certainly not leaving the house to get cat food or for any other reason. Just too nasty a day. Cold and wet! Yuck!

Footnotes
  1. But just because all my careful gardening “intel” is going to be on paper, do not think anyone online is going to get off lightly and not hear every aphid-filled detail of my gardening exploits. Trust me. []
