Firefox Extensions

I haven’t raved about any Firefox extensions — ever — because I didn’t use many other than an ad filter. I’d try some out every once in a while, and unless they made my online life significantly better in some way, I’d uninstall them. It never really took long for me to decide whatever an extension was offering, it wasn’t anything I needed.

Then along came Read It Later. It’s been described as a “staging area for bookmarks” … and I would add a staging area for blog posts. My desktop is no longer cluttered with links to thing I want to read later or write a post about or maybe want to save to delicious after I look it over better. Now all those web sites are safely stored, in a manner which allows me to save, filter, search, and read them in a variety of ways. It does things I haven’t even explored yet. Read It Later is … for me … an absolute godsend. I can’t recommend it highly enough. Truly a useful Firefox extension!

Shortly after I discovered Read It Later, I ran across Morning Coffee, which allows me to save bookmarks to all open automatically in tabs with the click of a button. What’s so amazing about that? Not much, but what if they automatically opened according to the day of the week, or whether it was the weekend or not, and several other filtering options? That’s pretty awesome! There are several web sites I don’t visit on the weekends, because I know they don’t update over the weekend. When I open my Morning Coffee on Saturday, it only opens the web sites I want opened on Saturday. There’s one site I only visit on Thursday, and Morning Coffee knows that (because I told it so), and it only opens that page on Thursday. No more forgetting to visit that site anymore! The best thing is I no longer have to remember which sites to visit when. As age sets in, I am always thankful to be able to safely forget things. ;)

Thought I would pass on my thoughts on these two Firefox extensions. They may not do what you need them to do, but if you need them to do these things, they do them very, very well. Check them out!
