OK, you all are welcome to join us in face to face discussion. We're talking about both districts 5 (Ken Mercer) and 10 (Cynthia Dunbar), about getting good candidates to run against them, and about getting Democrats actually to file for this office, which Democrats did not do when these two were elected to four-year terms in 2006.

Want to join us tomorrow, 2pm Saturday, November 22?

Where: The Upper Crust bakery, 45th and Burnet Rd.
in Austin, Texas (in an area misrepresented by the Hon. Cynthia Dunbar).

How you'll recognize me: Wearing a maroon, University of Chicago shirt.

I'm going to be making more posts with info about Dunbar soon. My ranting was disrupted by jury duty.

But yeah, this woman and several other members of the SBOE need to go.

This woman is a lunatic and really idiotic beyond belief. She
has every right to believe all the fairy tales in the Bible
but in my view she has no right to attempt to force her medieval views on the public schools in Texas.

But then what can any rational person expect from someone who
graduated from Holy Roller U...after all, it was founded by

Cynthia Dunbar is one of 15 members of the State Board of Education. These are big districts. Texas has 32 members of the United States House of Representatives, 31 state senators, and 150 state representatives, so her district is the size of that for 10 state representatives, and for more than two Members of Congress.

Her district includes all of Austin and Travis county north of Town Lake(dammed up Colorado River,
aka Lady Bird Lake). It includes all of Williamson county. It includes 87% of Fort Bend County, just west of Houston, and it includes a whole bunch of connecting rural counties between Austin and Houston. It includes the 40 acres of the main campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

In 2006, when she was elected to her first, and so far only, 4-year term, she defeated another Republican in her primary, then swept over the Libertarian in the general election. Where were the Democrats? They weren't there. No Democrat even paid the $300 filing fee, or got the few hundred signatures necessary to get on the ballot.

Filing for this office is in December 2009. I'm not a good candidate myself, but I'm sure trying to get Democrats talking, and with talking leading to action, so that we have one or more good candidates who actually file in December 2009. One does not have to be an educator. Two of the very good members of the current board are attorneys, one is in real estate, one a community volunteer. One does not have to be an educator, or even a college graduate.

The office pays no money, but it does pay expenses.
Members are put up at the Renaissance on 15th St. At least one member I know flies here for the meetings. Almost all meetings are here in Austin, at the Travis office building, 3 blocks north of our State Capitol. Meetings are on Thurs-Fri., or on Weds.-Fri. about seven times a year.

I instigated a discussion, with six of us attending the first session last Saturday at a bakery here in Austin. We included Democrats, such as I, but also people who might put efforts into defeating Dunbar in the Republican primary, or in working with the Libertarians.

Want to join us? Contact me.

Christ on a stick; if this woman thinks that the current US judicial system is "militant leftist", I'd hate to see what she thinks a proper "centrist" or right-wing judicial system would look like.

Unfortunately, we missed our opportunity to get four of these right-wingers off the board in this past election.

I mark it up to ignorance of the willful sort. I think she just really, really wants it to be true, so it's true to her. And as far as her law degree goes, it's from Regent University (1990), founded by Pat Robertson. She didn't pass the Texas Bar until 2005, as far as I can tell, so if she has 17 years of legal experience, it must not be in Texas. I don't know, still digging up stuff on her. Know thy enemy, right?

And the whole citizenship flap is simply ridiculous. He was born in Hawaii. End of argument. Anyone believing otherwise is an ignorant fool.

The insinuation she makes regarding Obama's "natural born" citizenship would be crass ignorance for a lay person, but this individual, Cynthia Dunbar, is an attorney, so this is simple deceit. Her insinuation that because his mother married an Indonesian and her son spent a few years in Indonesia, this casts a question upon his citizenship. Even if he were born outside of the U.S., if his mother is a U.S. citizen, he is a citizen. However, he was born in Hawaii, which, even Ms.Dunbar should realize, is a part of the U.S.A. So is it ignorance or deceit? If it were the former, she should turn in her license to practice law.
