Not Working

All hell broke lose with cats last night.

We decided, since aside from some hissing and because of the iffy weather, the kitten would stay in the living room last night. Lin was sleeping in the living room, and I took the brats with me to the bedroom and closed the door. This isn’t anything unusual, even when there aren’t kittens in the house. Often we are in the bedroom with the cats with the door closed overnight, and everyone just goes to sleep. Well, not last night.

I went to sleep and was awaken by a full-blown fight between Ronin and Myu on the bed, which then proceeded to move around the room as I tried to get to the light switch. No play-fighting. Actual fighting. I settled them down, turned of the light, and went back to sleep, and it started again.

Since I have a dental appointment today I wanted to get some sleep, I put the kitten in the carrier, set it by the bed and went to sleep. I assume there was peace in the house the rest of the night. I didn’t hear anything, and the cats both seemed calm when I got up. Until I moved the kitten-containing carrier into the living room this morning. Ronin is already losing his mind again.

This is not working out. As much as I am loath to put the new kitty outside unless that’s where she wants to be, I also cannot have World War III in my house. Ronin is not improving his opinion at all. In fact, he’s getting worse, and for the life of me, I can’t figure out why. The kitten hasn’t done anything but be in the living room. Has her own food and water, her own litter box, her own toys. She doesn’t even pay any attention at all to the cats. Doesn’t walk up to them or try to play with them, but just completely ignores them. And I have basically been ignoring the kitten and lavishing love and special treats on the cats. Yet the mere existence of a tiny kitten in the house is making Ronin want to kill someone, me included. He tried to bite me last night while I was making dinner and offered him a treat.

So … not sure how to proceed. I guess when Lin goes to work, the kitty goes out. She’ll have to anyway when I leave for my appointment. I guess when I get back I will work on making the laundry room a livable place for a kitten, and move her to the back yard so she can use the laundry room for eating and sleeping and visiting us. She’ll be able to get in whenever she wants. Heaven knows every other critter in our area has been in my laundry room at one time or another.

I’m pretty distressed and depressed about how this isn’t working out, but it really doesn’t seem to be working out. Ronin has lost his mind completely.
