New Kitty showed up at sunset and wanted into the house. She came in and played a little, snooped around a little, and aggravated Ronin and Myu a lot. I blocked off the den and kitchen to keep New Kitty in the living room and hall and give the old farts somewhere to go where there would be no kitten.
Ronin hid under the kitchen table all evening sporadically hissing for no reason at all. Myu got brave enough to investigate New Kitty, and there was a small nose batting incident. No claws were bared and it ended with Myu and New Kitty each getting in one nose bat before they toddled off to opposite corners. That’s actually progress. They have to work this stuff out themselves. My job is just to make sure no one gets injured or killed.
Then New Kitty wandered over to the front door after a nap and just sat there, so I opened the door and let her out. I didn’t want to go that, but she wanted out, and my option of keeping her in the carrier by the bed tonight almost seemed more cruel. She’s used to outdoors. She is not used to being in a carrier. I doubt any of us would have gotten any sleep.
While I think Myu will eventually adjust to a kitten in the household, I am not so certain Ronin will. He is NOT HAPPY at all. Time will tell, I guess.
I am so tired from all the evening watchfulness with the kitten being in the house. I usually take a nap then, which is what lucky Lin did. I have the feeling as soon as we eat dinner, I’m going to pass out. Unfortunately, I can’t do that until the laundry is done. Ugh.
Last year a black kitten wandered into our yard and I adopted him. I introduced him to the outside big dogs just to get them familiar with each other. I was afraid the dogs would hurt him but after a week they were cool with each other.
He’s so lovable, our mean big old dog that hated all cats now likes cats and even SLEEPS with the kitty. I named him Noite and I’m so glad I kept him. He’s an indoor/outdoor cat but he doesn’t stray away into other people’s yards. He stays here and just goes from our backyard to our front yard. :fuzza:
I’ve never had an indoor/outdoor cat before, but this one seems to prefer that. I’m thinking of setting up the laundry room with a kitty bed, and food and water and moving her to the back yard. She could get into the laundry room whenever she wants (heaven knows every other critter in the area does), like if it rains and we aren’t here to let her in.
We still aren’t sure if we can keep her, but it seems to be working out a little better every day. She’s just SO cute and sweet!
