Parsing Errors

“As we send our young men and women overseas in a war zone to fight for democracy and freedoms, including freedom of the press, we’ve really got to have a mutually beneficial relationship here with those fighting the freedom of the press, and then the press, though not taking advantage and exploiting a situation, perhaps they would want to capture and abuse the privilege. We just want truth, we want fairness, we want balance.”
–Sarah Palin
Every time I hear or read something this woman has said, I have to sit down and mentally diagram the sentence. Sometimes, it’s so bad I have to use paper and pen to sort out what she is trying to say. My analysis of the above statement and just about everything else she says? She’s not saying anything, at least not anything that makes any sense.

My analysis? She’s full of hot air and words that sound good, but not really meaningful.
She’s possibly one of the worst picks for VP ever.
Airhead. Total airhead. I know the type. I used to work with them. I continue to be dumbfounded by McCain choosing her. I didn’t think he was quite THAT stupid. Guess I was wrong. She is pathetic.

Apparently, you are not the only person who is doing this. The writer of the article comes to the same conclusions as you.
Oh my god. I am not the only person sitting around diagramming the woman’s sentences and trying to make some sense of them.
To me, it’s not English—it’s a collection of words strung together to elicit a reaction…
Which is exactly the conclusion I have come to time and again. There is simply no THERE there. It’s all just nonsense.
