With the Chinese milk products-melamine scandal generating fresh headlines, U.S. health officials on Friday unveiled what they consider acceptable levels of contamination with the industrial chemical.
My answer to acceptable limits of melamine in foodstuffs differs from that of the FDA. I say the answer is and should always be none. They believe 2.5 parts per million is totally acceptable, except in baby formula, which is to have none. How about none for all of us?

The U.S. is in such a weak economic condition in its relationship with China that our only choice is take-it-or-leave-it, and even with a conscientious administration it wouldn’t make much difference.
The whole bailout furor was precipitated by the phone call to Paulson six or seven weeks ago in which China demanded that the U.S. guarantee American bank paper, and like any loan shark, they didn’t care where the money came from.
Expect to see a lot of books hitting the stores in the coming months, many by eminent economists, detailing the swindles that went on under Bush.
Yup, we are going to have to accept a lot of shit, because we owe China a lot of money.
And now that the damn bailout has gone through (I think I heard it had) the stock market and our retirement fund better start getting better. Both of them nosedived yesterday, and to be honest, I don’t think it’s really going to get much better.
Flat out, in too many ways, the USA is screwed.
Didn’t the FDA also say that it was safe to eat beef from BSE-infected cows?
I believe so. Also, The USDA says we shouldn’t even bother testing cows for BSE. In fact, they are disallowing small farms from doing so, because then the big farms would have to do it to … or people might stop buying their factory farmed meat.
I get closer and closer to just wanting to move out to the country and become a survivalist … or a farmer … or start a farm commune. Seriously. Our food supply — worldwide — is getting crappier all the time.
