Lots of Plans

Last night I wrote a post before going to bed griping about how the city has screwed up my ability to efficiently and effectively ride the damn bus anywhere, and then didn’t hit the post button. Since that part of the post is still relevant, here it is:

While I wasn’t paying attention, they merged the #15 bus route with the #1 bus route. What it looks like to me is they took the things that sucked most about each route and made a whole new completely sucky route out of just those parts. So now the bus that picks up a block from my house follows a utterly stupid winding 45 minute path and doesn’t even end up going down Congress Ave. when it gets to the downtown area. As loath as I am to drive into downtown and attempt to find parking that won’t involve me having to parallel park the truck, which I am incapable of doing, I find the thought of being on a city bus for 45 minutes to travel 7.5 miles and then still having to walk a half mile when I get there. Why do they have to screw with perfectly useful bus routes?

Now for the new stuff:

I guess I have solved my bus problem. Not that it’s an ideal solution, but I guess I’ll drive over to the park and ride transfer station a few blocks away, leave my truck there, and catch the bus that will take me exactly where I want to go. I’m a bit nervous about leaving the truck at the transfer station, but I suppose it’s really no more or less worrisome than parking it somewhere downtown, and at least there won’t be a whole lot of walking involved. It’s not that I am opposed to walking. I walk to stores in the neighborhood fairly regularly. I am opposed to walking by myself at night unless I really, really have to.

So that solves my transportation problem for tonight, but guess what? I’m going downtown again on Saturday night too! Party! Well, friends from San Antonio are coming into town, and I don’t get to see them nearly enough, so I am not going to miss the chance to do so. I’ll cross the bridge of tomorrow night’s transport issues tomorrow. If I drive downtown, I’ll have to be careful about the drinking, and if I take the bus, I might have to leave earlier than I’d like to leave. A decision to be made later.

And because the universe is apparently not cool with the idea of the eternal hermit actually making plans to leave the house two evenings in a row, Aunt Flo came to visit early. Well, I am not letting that stop me from going out and having a good time. Sure, I am crampy, cranky, and feel like I have been hit by a truck, but dammit … I am going to the ballet tonight, and I am going to a piano bar tomorrow night. Cramps be damned. Crankiness be damned. Migraine be damned. I’m going to have me some fun!

In other news, there is no other news. I’m going to eat some lunch and take a nap.
