When I got back from the store, I checked the mail, and what was waiting for me? Another county court jury summons. How is it possible in a county as large as this one for me to get summoned two years in a row? This time it isn’t even for one of the county courts handling actual crimes, which would be somewhat interesting. No, it’s for the one that handles civil cases over $500. Great, people arguing about money or services rendered or not rendered. Can you sense how excited I am? Yeah … real excited.

I’d also like to know how it is that Lin, who has lived in Travis County as long as I have and has been a registered voter here just as long has only gotten called up once in 15 years and I am now on about time number 8 for County Court plus a couple for higher courts.

I never get picked. Never. I have been called for jury duty at least every two years, no matter where I lived, since I turned 18 and registered to vote, and not once have I ever been on a jury … even when I wanted to be on a jury. It always just ends with me being at a courthouse for a day, getting sent home eventually, and getting a $6 check in the mail a month later.

Oh … the joy.
