Poor, poor Lin. Looks like he’ll either be sleeping in his truck tonight or sharing a room with “the competition” who he’d really rather not share a room with. The RV won’t arrive until tomorrow. On the bright side, I have been talking to him non-stop from within the Houston area on his cell phone, which means he’s gotten some of the towers up and running all by his little lonesome self! When I last talked to him he was excited about finding a Home Depot that had electricity and was open.
And while sleeping in the truck will suck, because it is a truck and not a bed, I have to tell you not to feel too sorry for him. His work truck is very, very nice. The seats, which fully recline, have to be at least as comfy as our couch, and he sleeps on it in all manner of bizarre positions all the time. Still, sucks to be him tonight. Maybe he’ll decide that sharing a room with “those other guys” won’t be so bad.
Speaking of rooms and Houston: I was watching the local news earlier, and Houston had asked the City of Austin utility company to send some guys down to help get the electric back on. The two cities have a cooperative agreement to do that in the case of emergencies. Well, when Houston first asked, there weren’t any hotel rooms for the CoA electric guys, so they wouldn’t go until they had rooms. I guess tower guys are made of tougher stuff than utility guys, huh? The tower guys are all staying in campers, tents, and smashing themselves into whatever few hotel rooms they can scrounge up. Or, you know, sleeping in their trucks. I’m sure Lin isn’t the only one that will be doing that tonight. So poo on the CoA guys for being such pussies and not just getting down there ASAP to help.
Closer to home: I can’t believe how slowly the evening is going. Without having to cook a real meal and not having Lin around to talk to, the time is seriously dragging by way too slowly. It’s only 9 pm, and I’m actually thinking about going to bed. That’s pretty unusual.
