I’m getting scared about this hurricane. I honestly don’t think we’ll see much here in Austin, but Galveston and Houston look like they will be taking a beating, and it’s only a category 2-3 right now. What if it gets worse?
And what the hell is up with the emergency services in Austin? Evacuees on buses are getting to the shelters to find they don’t even have any cots, except for the elderly and ill, on a case-by-case basis.
Really … WTF?! We had a metric buttload of cots, bedding, tables and chairs when the people came up from Louisiana during Katrina and Rita. Whose cots were those, and why aren’t they here now? Evacuees are having to go buy air mattresses and pillows at Walmart. It’s completely stupid.
I’ve read and heard a lot about there not being any cots at the shelters, but no one has yet asked why there are no cots. I think I need to find out why there are no cots tomorrow. That’s just wrong. They keep saying they’ll only be here for a day or two, but if the devastation is anywhere near what the weather guys on TV are predicting, they may be here longer than that.
The Dallas shelters have cots. Waco shelters are setting up cots. Even smaller towns are setting up shelters with cots. What the hell is wrong with Austin?! Who’s supposed to bring the damn cots!
I need to get to the bottom of why exactly the Austin shelters don’t even have cots, when I have seen in the past — with my very own eyes — Austin shelters containing cots.
It’s just bleeding crazy.
