Excuse Me?!

Remember after the first night of the Republican Convention I noted how very, very white the crowd looked? I wasn’t the only one to notice, and the fact is, with only 13% of the delegates belonging to any minority group, it was quite a bland-looking gathering. Mostly white. Mostly old. Mostly male.
Yet I was just involved in an online conversation with someone who accused me of being racist for pointing out the fact that the Republican Convention was overwhelmingly white. This person then “informed” me that the Democratic delegates were almost all white and male as well. Not that I needed to look up statistics to know the facts on it, because I have eyes and can see variety in skin tones quite well, I looked them up anyway. 44% of the Democratic delegates belong to a minority group. 50% were women.
So I guess my eyes didn’t really deceive me. The Republican Convention was mostly white, and the Democratic Convention looked a lot more like the world I actually live in — a melting pot. I’m guessing the person I was conversing with, a Republican, didn’t watch the other convention. The differences between the two crowds were fairly damn obvious to anyone with eyeballs.
And if we have gotten to the point where merely pointing out that a gathering of people is one color or another is considered racist, well, I don’t even know how to respond to that.

I watched maybe 10 minutes total of the RNC. It was like spending 10 minutes in a nursing home. I was pretty entertained watching the elderly people playing with balloons.
And the Puerto Ricans in the background trying to blend in was pretty damn funny too.
They did have themselves a lot of balloons, didn’t they? I unfortunately watched about 90% of it. It completely disgusted me.
