Culture Clash
August 7th, 2008 - 9:09 pm
I started a game of Civilization this morning. Epic timeline, largest possible world setting. I started as the Greeks with a plan to be pacifistic, never open my borders to anyone, and simply out-culture everyone on the planet. I spent nearly the entire day playing, and the game isn’t over yet. My plan seems to be working. I have almost conquered the whole world, and the only military altercations I have had — so far — have been with barbarians trying to storm my cities.
I wish I’d been able to finish the game in one day, because I do not get to take a mental health day again tomorrow. Which doesn’t mean I won’t be finishing my game tomorrow. I will, but I won’t get to sit and just play, which actually makes the game more difficult. Ever try to keep track of where you are in your plan to conquer the world when you have a dozen cities, who knows how many workers, and a huge army and navy? Not so easy! ![]()
I’m going to go play another couple of turns while waiting for the Daily Show to come on. Then … bed, provided I can tear myself away from the silly game. I’m so close to winning, I don’t want to stop!
