Wit or Witout?

“Yo, gimme a cheesesteak wit, will youse?”
I should make an audio post of myself saying that, but I am too busy having the giggles and laughing at myself. I was attempting to sound like a Yankee, but it keeps sounding more like John Wayne. I sound pretty hilarious. I think even the cats are laughing at me. ![]()
Recently, I have been fixated on the idea of having an authentic Philly Cheesesteak at some point in the future. I mean, I want it to be really authentic, as in the kind of thing one might buy on a street corner in Southern Philly. I’ve had things calling themselves cheesesteaks, but they were our own Texas variety. I want the real deal.
Any of my Austin readers have any suggestions for finding such a thing in the metro area? Cheese Whiz being mandatory for the experience, or so I hear, but I suppose a non-Cheese Whiz Philly would do too, so long as it’s really, really authentic.
Why am I suddenly fixated on having a Philly? No idea why. It popped into my head, and it won’t go away. I think I’ve seen too many of them on TV, and they look so greasy, disgusting, and tasty. ![]()

A real philly cheese steak has no cheez-whiz. It uses white american. The best PCS I have had that were not in Philadelphia was in Houston at a bar called Dick head’s. It closed a few years ago, but the owner was from Philly, and he made the best.In Austin, there are several good ones, but the 2 places that really stand out are Texas pizza and Pasta, ( which is not too far from your house) and Hooys which is off of rm 620 in Round Rock. If any one ever asks you, Always skip the ketchup on a PCS ! that is the same as putting beans in Texas chili!

Thanks for the recommendations! I think I’ll make it a point to stop at Texas Pizza Pasta & More next time I head that way. In fact, I may make it a point to head that way, because I am seriously wanting to have a cheesesteak. No idea why, but they sound so good!
Orb,
Philly is only know for a few things. Worst sports fans anywhere, Declaration of Independence, Mummers Parade, Fabian, and Philly cheese steaks. If you listen to the Today Show they would have you believe there are only Pat’s or Gino’s. Hey Matt, vaffanculo, may your taste buds dry up and blow away…Pat’s or Gino’s. You want a Philly cheese steak, check out this site. There are places that will even airship them to you, sure it cost, but we are talking about a good Philly cheese steak.

To tell you the truth the best thing about Philly cheese steaks or hoagies is the roll. You can have the same ingredients, but if you don’t have a good roll, you don’t have a good sandwich.
Philly’s Tony “Whiz or Whizout” Luke uses Cheese Whiz, everyone else in Philly and S. Jersey uses white american cheese. That being said it was Luke who was challenged by Bobby Flay as to who could make the best Philly Cheese Steak. Luke won.
Well, Bobby, in my opinion, can’t seem to cook his way out of a paper bag without the use of ground corn and hot peppers. I’m not surprised he got his butt kicked on a sandwich.
That site you linked to says that Hoody’s place MW suggested in my area is a place to get a great one, so now I have to find a valid excuse to go into Roundrock to get one. It just so happens, the sandwich place is closer than IKEA, which means the next time I can convince Lin we NEED to go to IKEA, we will also NEED to stop for some cheese steaks. Why look, both places are open tomorrow! I think I’ll go start whining to Lin now.
Didya get yer cheese steak yet?
Ugh … no. I’m trying to resist until Lin can go with me, because I hate eating alone.
