Snip Snip

Every pair of scissors in this house is dull and crappy. It took me two and a half hours to cut out the dress pieces, though I will attribute some of that time to the fact I feel crappy today. The scissors and I … both crappy. Blech.
Of course, I didn’t get as early a start on sewing today as I planned. First, I woke up feeling crappy and went back to bed for a couple of hours. Then my phone kept ringing, and the people calling weren’t people I could ignore or call back later. Finally, just as I got started on laying out the pattern pieces on the fabric, one of the utility companies — one which gives us no end of aggravation concerning billing problems — provided me with the opportunity to waste yet more time arguing about a billing problem. By the time I got everyone on the planet happy and all the major issues sorted out, it was already 2 pm, and I was completely wiped out physically and mentally.
I was determined to at least get the dress pieces cut out today though, and so I did. Crawling around on the floor for two and a half hours did not improve my physical or mental condition, but at least now when I gather enough energy and time to work on it, what I consider to be the most annoying and tiresome part of it all is done. Even when I have nice, sharp scissors, there is nothing about the cutting out of pattern pieces I find enjoyable. It’s just so tedious and boring to me. The sewing part is what I really enjoy … and wearing the thing after it’s done too. Having something new to wear is always cool.
Maybe I’ll feel like getting started on it in a little bit, but I thought a nice break at the computer would be good. Sitting in a chair after crawling around on all fours for a couple of hours is always good. The problem will be when I try to get up and my butt says it wants to keep sitting at the desk or move to the couch rather than sit in the kitchen doing something constructive. Since it’s really so late in the day already, and it’s both pizza night and Sci-Fi night, my butt will probably win. I really, really want to sew my new dress together, but on top of feeling crappy, I also feel lazy.
