Excuse Me?

Thinking since I didn’t have much to do today and I hadn’t played Civilization IV in a long time, I’d just switch to my other user on my iMac and have a go at taking over the world. Well, first I decided to check for any updates to the software, because there had been problems the last time I played it, and I was waiting for a patch. Lo and behold, there was a new patch.

I told the software to update itself. It said it downloaded the patch. It told me to click OK and close the program to install the patch. The program closed, but there was no patch installing. I repeat the entire process again. Still no patching love. I search on my computer for the patch, and there it is … a Windows exe file. Excuse me? Hello?

Next I visit one of the big Civilization forums where I am informed that Aspyr is on crack, and the internal updater in Civ IV for the Mac does, in fact, not download the Mac patch. Yeah, already figured that one out. How stupid, right?

Now I am downloading the patch on my own, and it is taking for-freaking-ever. It better be worth it.

So the hour-ish I was going to spend playing a game before I had to start the stew for dinner tonight has been spent sitting here watching the same damn patch downloading three times. Color me cranky. I guess I’ll go get the stew started while this thing slowly makes its way to me. Then maybe I can actually play my game for a little while.

Grrrr.
