Kids Count is a “national and state-by-state effort to track the status of children in the United States.” Texas, going all out as it always does with everything, stands at #37 in the line-up. Ugh.
During my adult life, Texas, that used to be great at a great many things, has sunk lower and lower in the ratings for all things. It’s disgusting. We should be doing better that this all around.
Anyway, it’s an interesting data-set.
Click on New Mexico, and realize this is a state populated overwhelmingly by multi-generational native-born Americans. Even though we are a Southwestern border state, we don’t even meet the national average for immigrant residents. Still, we manage to compile horrific stats. As long as our peculiar worship of nonjudgmentalism precludes any informed public discussion of culture, we’ll stay here.
